Property Description

Grade 2 listed. Queen Anne revival style with asymmetrical façade. Built to the design of John A Gill Knight produced in 1903 then constructed between 1915 and 1916 and subsequently altered.

Listing states that it is highly idiosyncratic but illustrative of the best architecture in the period. Materials feature redbrick façade with extensive portland stone dressings. Projecting porticoes curved loggias, canted bays and segmental-headed parapets above a prominent cornice.

There are two identical six story blocks each of five bays was central portico entrance projecting from a curved two-storey bay each entrance flanked by bays with shaped parapets. Enhanced by stone obelisks set in cartouches rising above the building line to each side of the bay. Other bays have plainer finish. Extensive decoration with carved stone detailing including laurel wreaths, garlands, masks, lozenges, cartouches and crockets.

Intended interior was laid out with a total of 24 flats equating to 2 flats on each floor of both buildings. Layouts of subsequently being altered in 1940’s.
